However, it is now realised that a structured approach to its introduction, with quantified targets & milestones, is the way to achieve results rapidly. PROGRAMMEA lot has been written about TQM in recent years and much of it pure nonsense. We believe that a totally pragmatic approach should be adopted aimed solely at achieving and surpassing the established business objectives; in this way being a world-class company has real meaning. Module 1: A Model for Change A Continuous Improvement programme, whether in the Manufacturing or Service sector, should have five (5) distinct phases (shown schematically overleaf), namely, 1. Strategic Plan To agree collectively strategies and objectives and to set quantifiable measures of success / failure (Key Performance Indicators, KPIs, & Critical Success Factors, CSFs) and to separately address the needs of shareholders, customers, suppliers & employees. 2. Analysis & Assessment To evaluate operational & administrative processes & identify opportunities for improvement. 3. Prioritise & Choose Quality Improvement Methods To maximise the benefits, to deploy resources effectively & to achieve visible success. 4. Implement To form Quality Improvement Groups which will apply the chosen methods & to establish a conducive environment addressing Communication, Teamwork, Staff Recognition & Individual Education & Training Needs. 5. Review Performance-based measurement of progress & measurement against KPIs & CSFs followed by revision of the Strategic Plan and the cycle is repeated again continuously. The process is shown schematically overleaf. Module 2: Culture Change Change needs to be managed well if it is to be rapid and provide sustained benefits. Eight issues are addressed… 1. LOCATION & DURATION The standard Programme is of 7 hours duration and is usually delivered in-company.
